World News - A restaurant owner in Frankfurt has a unique way of expressing his protest to the government regarding the lockdown in Germany.
Guiseppe Fichera used a lot of panda dolls to fill his Pino restaurant, which was deserted due to the lockdown.
The panda dolls were seen sitting on each dining chair. Meanwhile, plates and cutlery are also neatly arranged on the table.
Corona beer was served in front of the panda doll.
Starting from a crazy idea and wanting to revive the restaurant, now the pandas have gotten sponsorships and they have a 24 hour exhibition. "This is a crazy idea. But a friend gave me an idea because the restaurant looks so sad, dark and empty, "said Guiseppe Fichera.
At night, the restaurant lights will be turned on so people can still see it and take photos.
"The best thing is to be able to see a lot of people smiling when looking into a restaurant," he said as reported by the Associated Press.
He hopes the government will provide financial assistance to the restaurant industry like himself to cover losses during the pandemic. "On the other hand, this is also a form of silent protest," Fichera stressed.
The hopes came after the German government agreed to extend the lockdown to December 20.
"It is difficult. The government promised assistance and I think we will get it. But it does not cover the costs of our losses and our livelihoods are being threatened," he said.
Germany reported 22,806 new cases on Friday (27/11). This has led Germany to have recorded 1,006,394 cases since the pandemic began several months ago, and the decision on November 2 forced all bars, restaurants and entertainment venues to close to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Meanwhile, only schools and shops are allowed to open by the government.
The German government has said it will provide financial assistance to companies affected by the lockdown. The government is said to be preparing € 20 billion by December 2020.
